Spring Bucket List: The best of Sarasota

Spring Bucket List: The best of Sarasota

Spring in Sarasota has a certain rhythm to it. The weather is warm but not too hot. The beaches are beautiful without the peak summer crowds. And the local calendar fills up with events, outdoor markets, and things to do that reflect the character of the community.

As someone who lives and works here year-round, I find spring to be one of the best times to explore what Sarasota has to offer beyond the obvious. Here are a few local favorites that might not make every travel guide, but are well worth your time.

Morning walks at Bayfront Park

There’s something peaceful about starting your day with a walk at Bayfront Park. It’s right by downtown and has views of the marina and the Ringling Bridge.

You’ll see locals walking their dogs, people stopping for coffee, and the occasional dolphin in the distance. It’s a simple way to enjoy the waterfront without needing a plan.

Local art and seasonal shows

Spring brings a mix of art festivals and outdoor exhibits. The Sarasota Film Festival usually runs in April and draws a wide range of independent films and filmmakers.

If you prefer visual arts, the art galleries in the Rosemary District and Towles Court often host spring showings, many featuring local artists. It’s a nice way to explore the cultural side of the city without large crowds.

Visit the Sarasota farmers market on Saturdays

Held downtown year-round, the Sarasota Farmers Market is especially enjoyable in spring. It’s less humid, the produce is at its peak, and vendors often bring out seasonal favorites like fresh herbs, citrus, and local honey.

You’ll also find handmade goods, plants, and breakfast spots scattered along the way.

Evenings at the Bay Sarasota

The Bay is one of the city’s newest waterfront public spaces, and spring is the perfect time to experience it. The weather makes it comfortable to enjoy free outdoor concerts, sunset yoga, and open lawn events without too much heat.

It’s a good place to go without a strict agenda. Just show up, walk around, and see what’s happening.

Day trips and nature trails

If you’re looking for something quieter, head inland a bit. Myakka River State Park offers shaded trails, wildlife sightings, and canopy walks that feel far removed from the beach crowds. This is one of Florida’s oldest state parks, and it gives a different perspective on the area, less polished, more natural.

Sunset dinner without the wait

Spring is a sweet spot between winter visitors and the summer slowdown. You can often get a table at waterfront restaurants without a long wait. Places like Ophelia’s on Siesta Key or Shore on St. Armands Circle are always in demand, but spring gives you the best chance at a relaxed evening with a view.

A season that belongs to the locals

Sarasota in spring doesn’t try too hard. It doesn’t need to. This is when the city settles into its own rhythm, before the heat of summer sets in. It’s a good time to take advantage of what’s around you, attending a jazz night at a local park or simply spending a quiet afternoon by the water.

If you’re new to the area or considering a move, spring gives you a real feel for what day-to-day life here can be. And if you’ve lived here a while, it’s a reminder of why so many people are drawn to this corner of the coast.
